Our Story

Where Biomedical Science Meets Skin Care

DKGlow was born from a simple question: why aren’t the most promising ingredients in research showing up in the products on shelves?

Science Through Innovation

Where biomedical research meets the body's own repair systems.

At DKGlow, we are driven by a mission to transform skincare and wellness through the power of science and nature. Founded by Dr. Dorra Frikha-Benayed — a scientist with a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from City College of New York — DKGlow is rooted in groundbreaking research in cellular and molecular bioengineering.

Dr. Benayed's work focuses on how cellular processes — particularly energy production and oxidative stress — shape health, aging, and regeneration. Her expertise in mitochondrial bioenergetics and redox biology revealed the body's remarkable ability to repair and regenerate itself when mitochondrial function is optimised.

That passion for unlocking the body's natural renewal potential is what created DKGlow. Where conventional products provide only short-term cosmetic effects, our offerings harness the regenerative power of Methylene Blue — a scientifically validated compound for cellular vitality and renewal — paired with clinical infrared wavelengths.

“The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. We're just here to make sure it keeps powering.”
Featured Research

From peer-reviewed publication to product philosophy.

Three publications that reflect the scientific foundation DKGlow is built on. Dr. Frikha-Benayed's research focuses on mitochondrial biology and cellular bioenergetics — the same systems that underlie skin renewal.

2024·Aging (Albany NY)

Targeting mitochondrial dysfunction using methylene blue or mitoquinone to improve skeletal aging

Poudel SB, Frikha-Benayed D, Ruff RR, et al.

Investigation of methylene blue and mitoquinone as mitochondrial-targeting interventions for age-related skeletal decline. In vitro effects observed; in vivo bone-loss outcomes did not change in the model used.

2017·PNAS

Osteocyte calcium signals encode strain magnitude and loading frequency in vivo

Lewis KJ, Frikha-Benayed D, Louie J, et al.

Demonstrated how individual osteocytes encode the magnitude and frequency of mechanical loading through calcium signalling — a foundational result for cellular mechanobiology.

2016·Bone

Regional differences in oxidative metabolism and mitochondrial activity among cortical bone osteocytes

Frikha-Benayed D, Basta-Plajkic J, Majeska RJ, Schaffler MB

First-author work showing that osteocytes in different regions of cortical bone carry distinct oxidative-metabolism and mitochondrial-activity profiles — relevant to how local bioenergetics shape tissue function.

The Science

Two Technologies. One Mission.

Both Methylene Blue and infrared therapy target the same root cause of skin aging: declining mitochondrial function.

Methylene Blue

A mitochondria-targeting antioxidant that crosses the skin barrier and donates electrons directly to the electron transport chain — boosting cellular energy, neutralizing free radicals, and promoting collagen synthesis.

Peer-reviewed in Scientific Reports (Xiong et al., 2021): MB reduced oxidative damage and extended cellular lifespan in human dermal fibroblasts.

Infrared Therapy

Red (650–670 nm) and near-infrared (850–880 nm) wavelengths penetrate 5–10 mm into tissue, studied for their interaction with cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondrial electron transport chain — the mechanism most often cited in the ATP-production and tissue-renewal literature.

Reviewed across 50+ trials (Hamblin MR, 2016, Photobiomodulation): studied effects on skin renewal and tissue recovery.
